Panel count is not the only design question. Daytime use, evening demand, roof orientation, shading, electric heating and EV charging all affect the shape of a useful system.
Think about the full system
Solar, batteries, EV charging and tariffs interact. Planning them together can avoid boxed-in choices later.
- Roof condition and available area
- Annual and half-hourly electricity use where available
- Inverter and battery location
- Consumer-unit capacity
- Monitoring and internet connection
- Future heat-pump or EV demand
Wait for confirmed approvals
Do not assume a grant, export arrangement or customer protection applies until the installer, equipment and current scheme requirements have been confirmed in writing. Imrie Renewables will only take installation work forward after its required launch approvals are in place.
Questions for the survey
Ask how shading, inverter position, cable routes, export arrangements, monitoring and battery location were considered. The answers should connect the roof design to the electrical installation inside the property.
Preparing without overcommitting
Useful preparation can include retaining energy data, reviewing roof condition and leaving sensible service routes during renovation. Do not purchase major equipment before a complete design and installer responsibility are clear.
Do not work on live electrical equipment. If there is smoke, fire, a burning smell or immediate danger, keep clear, isolate only if safe and contact the emergency services where appropriate.
